Whitehorse, YT – After the costs of the Nisutlin Bay Bridge project ballooned since 2019, the Yukon Government warns that costs could rise further as they work to get the project back on track.
The project’s initial cost estimate in 2019 was $25 and it’s now nearly $194 million. Soil issues at both ends of the bridge, discovered last year, have delayed construction and added significantly to the cost.
The territorial government is hiring a new engineer to help get the project moving again and help make sure the bridge is built safely and efficiently. Construction will resume once more repair and design work is finished.
The Yukon Government says in a statement that the current bridge is safe and fully open.
