Whitehorse, YT – A missing snowmobiler near Haines Pass has been found dead after a weekend search complicated by severe weather conditions.
Atlin RCMP say three snowmobilers had travelled into the area along the Yukon-B.C. border on Friday, May 8, to retrieve a broken snowmachine when one rider became separated from the group.
Police say poor visibility and dangerous winter conditions limited rescue efforts until a break in the weather on Sunday, May 10 allowed helicopters and snowmobile crews into the area.
The man was found dead about four kilometres from his last known location.
The investigation has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
