Whitehorse, YT – Yukon Wildland Fire Management says it is ready for the 2026 wildfire season.
The branch has 26 firefighting crews available this summer, including government crews and teams contracted through Yukon First Nations and Yukon First Nations Wildfire. They operate from six regional bases in Dawson City, Mayo, Carmacks, Haines Junction, Whitehorse and Watson Lake.
Two contracted airtanker groups, along with helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft, will support wildfire response efforts. Additional resources can be brought in through agreements with other provinces, territories and some U.S. states if needed.
There were 158 wildfires that burned more than 169,000 hectares across the Yukon during the 2025 wildfire season.
