Whitehorse, YT – Yukon RCMP conducted two arrests on Tuesday, January 23rd, in connection with an ongoing weapons investigation.
On Tuesday morning the RCMP Crime Reduction Unit found a stolen vehicle in downtown Whitehorse and were altered to potential incidents involving weapons associated with the vehicle. This prompted the response of the Yukon RCMP Emergency Response Team and the Police Dog Service to ensure public safety.
Later that afternoon police arrested 26-year-old Whitehorse resident Nicholas Rear outside of a downtown establishment. He was detained pending a first court appearance scheduled for January 24th.
Police searched the vehicle and a hotel room linked to Rear and found two replica firearms and evidence supporting drug trafficking charges.
Rear was already subject to previous warrants and now faces additional charges including possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Additionally, another individual was taken into custody but was later released without charges being laid. Their identity was not disclosed by RCMP.
