WHITEHORSE, YT -Due to a prolonged period of extreme cold, high winds and blowing snow, Haines Road has been closed from Haines Junction to the US Border. The road has been closed since Sunday, March 3rd.
The Yukon Department of Highways and Public Works has arranged for a pilot car service to escort travelers through the area from Haines Junction to the Pleasant Camp Border Crossing. The Department says the pilot car service will continue to operate for as long as road conditions allow until work crews have reopened Haines Road.
The pilot car had left Haines Junction Wednesday morning at 8am and began the return journey from the Pleasant Camp Border Crossing at 1030am. There is another shuttle set to leave Haines Junction Wednesday evening at 530pm, returning from the Pleasant Camp Border Crossing at 9pm.
The shuttle will resume operation again on Thursday, March 7th at 8am from Haines Junction, returning at 1030am from Pleasant Camp.
