WHITEHORSE, YT – The Whitehorse RCMP have confirmed they responded to a fatal motor vehicle collision at the intersection of the Alaska Highway and McClintock Road, near Marsh Lake, on the afternoon of Friday, August 2nd.
The Alaska Highway had been closed in both directions late Friday afternoon, and remained closed Saturday, August 3rd from the Carcross Cutoff to Jakes Corner, with the exception of southbound local traffic. A detour is currently in place along Tagish Road and the South Klondike Highway.
Just before 5pm on August 2nd, The Whitehorse RCMP and Emergency Medical Services had been dispatched to the collision involving a southbound vehicle on the highway which had struck a separate vehicle entering the highway.
RCMP have confirmed the driver of the vehicle that was struck was killed in the collision, while the passenger had sustained injuries and were transported to Whitehorse General Hospital for treatment.
The RCMP are activity investigating the collision, and a Traffic Collision Analyst from Prince George, BC has been engaged to assist. Anyone with dashcam footage of the area at the time of the collision has been asked to contact the Yukon RCMP at 867-667-5555.
