Whitehorse, YT – Temperatures across the territory this week are ranging between 6 and as high as 12 degrees above seasonal normals leaving many Yukon communities under a heat warning or special weather statement.
Environment Canada has put a heat warning in effect for Whitehorse, Mayo, Old Crow and the Dempster where temperatures will reach at least 28 degrees combined with overnight lows near 13 degrees.
A special weather statement is in effect for Watson Lake, Teslin, Haines Junction, Kluane Lake, Atlin, Dawson, Faro and Ross River where highs will reach at least 26 degrees with overnight lows near 10 degrees.
These conditions are expected to last until Thursday, August 8th.
Environment Canada says extreme heat can affect everyone’s health and encourages folks to check on each other, stay cool, and drink lots of water.
