Whitehorse, YT – Yukon RCMP say there are some important safety tips to keep in mind as trick-or-treaters take to the streets today.
Drivers are being reminded to slow down in residential areas and watch for children crossing the street. Parents or guardians are asked to remind children to stay alert for traffic and cross the street at crosswalks.
Homeowners are asked to clear their walkways of obstacles to prevent falls and use flameless candles to avoid fire hazards. The RCMP says pets should also be kept indoors to prevent them from getting scared or escaping.
For those taking part in trick-or-treating wear something reflective to increase visibility.
The Yukon RCMP says you should check all candies before consumption and discard anything that isn’t sealed or looks suspicious.
If you do not wish to partake in the Halloween festivities the RCMP say it’s common practise to leave outside lights off.
