WHITEHORSE, YT – As of October 25th, that’s in addition to the distribution points at the Whitehorse Public Library and the Jim Smith Building, 13 non-governmental organizations in the City of Whitehorse have signed up to offer free tickets and passes for Whitehorse Transit as part of the Yukon Government’s Free Transit Initiative.
The Government says this is a no barrier program, with no cap on the total number of tickets and passes available. That said, the monthly passes need to be pre-ordered and the Department of Community Services warned it may take some time before they have a full understanding of the demand for them, but they will adjust their supply accordingly.
In the event monthly passes run out, free transit tickets will still be available.
The Government has asked those who’d like to avail of the program to first check with an NGO you’re involved with to see if they’ve signed up as a distributor, while any NGOs looking to sign up can reach out to free.transit@yukon.ca for more information, and to request an enrollment form.
