Whitehorse, YT – The City of Whitehorse will no longer be hand-delivering public notices as the Canada Post strike nears the one-month mark.
In a special council meeting held on Thursday, the city council voted unanimously to adopt alternative methods for public communication, such as social media and newspaper advertisements.
Director of Development Services Mike Gau explained that the postal disruption had significantly impacted the delivery of public notices for proposed zoning by-law amendments.
With two options on the table – either switching to alternative notification methods or taking no action – the council opted for the former to ensure continued public engagement.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers was previously critical of the city’s hand-delivery.
