WHITEHORSE, YT – The Commissioner of Yukon, Adeline Webber, has announced 3 Yukoners to be honored as this year’s inductees to the Order of Yukon.
Nesta Leduc, Mary Sloan, and Joseph ‘Rudy’ Couture have been named the Order of Yukon inductees for 2024.
Nesta Leduc has been recognized as the Yukon’s first female physician, as well as for her tireless efforts to pave the way for women in the field of medicine through mentorship and advocacy.
Mary Sloan has been honored as an ambassador of the arts for her work in Yukon’s arts community and theater scene, as well as her mentorship which had inspired countless other creatives.
Joseph ‘Rudy’ Couture has been recognized for his dedication to the Yukon Order of Pioneers and the Knights of Columbus. Couture, and late wife Janey, are also the designers behind the Yukon Tartan.
Leduc, Sloan, and Couture will each receive their honors at a special ceremony at the Kwanlin Dün Cultural Centre in Whitehorse on January 4th, at 2pm.
The Order of Yukon is the highest civilian honor in the Yukon, as is awarded in recognition of an individual’s outstanding achievements and contributions to the arts, culture, society at large, and/or the economy.
