Whitehorse, YT – Pending legislative approval, the Yukon Government is extending its Paid Sick Leave Rebate Program for another year reimbursing employers a significant portion of paid sick leave per year.
The program covers up to 40 hours of paid sick leave per year for eligible workers at no cost to employers. Since its launch in April, 2023, over 170 Yukon businesses have participated, providing paid sick leave to more than 1,100 employees.
The $850,000 program reimburses employers and self-employed workers earning at or below the Yukon’s average private-sector wage.
“By empowering Yukoners to make the decision to stay home when they are feeling sick, we are helping to ensure that they aren’t risking their health and the health of others and don’t have to choose between their wellbeing and financial stability,” said Premier Ranj Pillai in a statement.
Government and federally regulated workers are not eligible.
