Whitehorse, YT – Yukon’s minimum wage will rise from $17.59 to $17.94 per hour on April 1st in a bid to keep pace with inflation.
The two percent wage increase is tied to the Whitehorse 2024 Consumer Price Index.
Tying minimum wage to inflation is a commitment included in the confidence and supply agreement between the governing Yukon Liberal Party and Yukon NDP.
“Yukoners continue to tell us how challenging it is to make ends meet with the rising cost of living – we need to continue to work to make life more affordable,” said Yukon NDP Leader Kate White in a press release.
The increase aligns with a national trend, as all Canadian jurisdictions now have minimum wages at or above $15 per hour. The federal minimum wage is currently $17.30 per hour.
