Whitehorse, YT – Almost every federal candidate took the stage at the Yukon Federation of Labour’s (YFL) all-candidates debate last night at the Gold Rush Inn, offering voters a chance to hear where they stand on key issues shaping the territory’s future.
YFL President and debate moderator Teresa Acheson welcomed Green Party candidate Gabrielle Dupont, Liberal incumbent Brendan Hanley, and NDP candidate Catherine McCallum.
“We are honored and welcome these courageous individuals. Stepping forward to represent all of us in Canada’s parliament. Each has chosen to stand in the arena to tackle Yukon’s unique challenges and to bring that perspective to Ottawa.”
Conservative candidate Ryan Leef did not attend. His office indicated he would be happy to respond to written questions.
Dupont called for a break from “status quo” politics, stressing the urgency of action on climate change, affordable housing, and political cooperation.
Hanley pointed to his over three years as MP and warned of growing threats to Canadian economic and national sovereignty, particularly amid U.S. political uncertainty.
McCallum highlighted her union background, vowing to fight for working people and citing the NDP’s role in advancing dental care, childcare, and anti-scab legislation.
Election day is Monday, April 28th.
