Whitehorse, YT – A federal election forum hosted by the Yukon Chamber of Commerce was cut short yesterday after NDP candidate Katherine McCallum was targeted with harassing messages by someone posing as another participant.
Organizers say the impersonator sent “disturbing” private messages to McCallum during the virtual event which featured all four federal candidates. The individual was blocked and the forum ended early.
“We worked hard to cultivate a forum of respectful dialogue, and it was disrupted by the reprehensible behaviour of a bad actor,” said co-moderator Michael Pealow in a statement.
The organization is working to identify the individual responsible and is exploring options to prevent similar incidents in the future, including reporting the matter to the RCMP.
