Whitehorse, YT – A lightning-caused wildfire burning northeast of Rock Creek in the Dawson area remains out of control but fire crews are responding with full force.
The Jeckell Creek is burning 20 km from Rock Creek and was identified Sunday afternoon. The fire had grown to 80 hectares by Monday morning.
One wildfire crew and a helicopter are on site, with support from Yukon’s airtanker group. An Alaskan airtanker from Fairbanks also assisted with a retardant drop on the fire’s west side, while the line is currently holding.
No structures or critical infrastructure are threatened and the fire is not expected to impact the Dempster Highway at this time.
