Whitehorse, YT – Evacuation alerts have been lifted for Keno, McQuesten Lake, Hansen Lakes and sections of the Silver Trail Highway, after nearby wildfire activity showed signs of slowing.
The alerts, first issued July 4, were precautionary due to the proximity of several large out-of-control wildfires. As of Tuesday, no evacuation alerts or orders are in effect anywhere in the territory.
The Ladue Lake fire, located about 5.5 kilometres north of Keno City, is still classified as out of control and has grown to roughly 5,500 hectares. However, officials say fire activity has been low in recent days.
The North Ferry Hill fire, one of the largest active fires in the territory at approximately 13,000 hectares, is burning north of Stewart Crossing and is also showing signs of slowing.
Territory-wide, 90 fires are burning, with 17 receiving a full response from fire crews.
