Whitehorse, YT – The RCMP have laid charges against the driver of an SUV after striking a Whitehorse handcyclist in June.
RCMP have charged 39-year-old Ashley Kirkpatrick, also known as Ashley Godin, with driving carelessly, operating a vehicle without a licence and using an unregistered vehicle.
Around 9:57 p.m. on Jun. 7, Darryl Tait was training on his handcycle when he was struck from behind by an SUV heading in the same direction. Police say he was “dragged a distance” by the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Tait is a para-athlete who was paralyzed from the chest down after a snowmobile accident in 2009.
