Whitehorse, YT – The Yukon Liberal Party says Mike Pemberton has resigned as leader, effective immediately.
The party’s executive has appointed Vuntut Gwitchin MLA Debra-Leigh Reti as interim leader. She will continue to represent Old Crow in the legislative assembly.
Support for the Yukon Liberals tanked during the territorial election last fall, with the Liberals only securing one of 21 seats.
The Liberals say in a statement that their annual general meeting will proceed as scheduled tomorrow, where party members will deal with routine business, including financial matters, constitutional amendments and the election of a new executive.
More to come.
