Whitehorse, YT – Yukon might be able to tap into British Columbia’s success with recruiting U.S.-trained healthcare workers through a new licensing pathway.
The new dual licensing pathway was developed with the province and allows American physicians to apply once and be approved in both jurisdictions.
B.C. has received over 2,700 applications from U.S. healthcare professionals and more than 400 have accepted jobs in the province. Yukon Health Minister Brad Cathers says the territory can tap into their success by allowing credentials already approved in B.C. to register doctors locally.
“Through this partnership with BC, the Yukon can take advantage of BC success in recruiting us doctors and allowing those doctors to be licensed in the Yukon,” Cathers told the legislature on Thursday.
The Yukon government says further regulatory changes are also being explored to simplify the licensing process even more.
