Whitehorse, YT – Yukon Premier Currie Dixon says a potential Alberta separation vote could have consequences for Yukoners.
Speaking at the Western premiers’ meeting in Kananaskis, Alta., Dixon pointed to links including health care referrals, post-secondary education and broader economic connections between Yukon and Alberta.
He said Alberta leaving Confederation would negatively affect the North, but the decision ultimately rests with Albertans.
“I’ve been in elected office on and off since 2011 and over that I’ve seen Alberta play an incredibly important leadership role in the confederation,” said Dixon. “While I know that Albertans have a number of grievances with the federal government, it’s my hope that Alberta will continue to stay in the confederation.”
Western premiers wrapped up their meetings after discussions on a range of issues, though Alberta’s planned separation plebiscite this fall dominated much of the conversation.
