Whitehorse, YT – An internal review by the Yukon RCMP has found officers followed policy in a fatal January 27 shooting outside Whitehorse.
Police say the review examined the weeks leading up to the incident, when the man had multiple interactions with RCMP, including arrests, charges, and an outstanding warrant amid escalating public safety concerns.
RCMP say officers located him on the Alaska Highway and attempted a traffic stop, but he fled at high speed, leading to an emergency response and an officer-involved shooting during an attempted arrest.
The force says only minor administrative issues were identified around documentation and supervision, and notes a separate ASIRT investigation also concluded officers acted appropriately.
