Whitehorse, YT – Yukoners should expect a hotter-than-average summer, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada’s seasonal outlook.
The territory is among the regions most likely to see above-normal temperatures between June and August, with a 75 per cent chance of warmer conditions in Whitehorse. Forecasters say most of Canada is also expected to trend warmer this summer.
Officials say wildfire risk, held back earlier in the season by a cool and wet spring, is expected to increase as temperatures rise.
The outlook also points to a developing El Niño pattern, which can drive warmer and drier conditions across parts of the country.
