Whitehorse, YT – High streamflow advisories remain in effect for several Yukon waterways as levels continue to rise with ongoing snowmelt and rain.
On the Yukon River near Carmacks, water levels are above the average annual peak and still rising. Officials say low-lying areas and riverside campsites could flood, and debris may be carried downstream. Levels are expected to keep rising through the week but are not forecast to reach the highs seen in 2021 and 2022.
The Stewart River is also above peak levels and rising, though the rate of increase is expected to slow.
The Liard River was expected to peak over the weekend before beginning to drop.
At Teslin Lake, water levels remain high and are still rising, though the rate of increase is expected to slow. A further rise of 50 to 90 centimetres is possible.
