Prime Minister Justin Trudeau finished off his trip up to the Yukon with a press conference held with Premier Ranj Pillai and MP Brendan Hanley
YUKON – In his visit to the Yukon, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had to make a rare call to shoot down the object between Alaska and the territory.
Canada’s Prime Minister was in the Yukon over the weekend for what was planned to be a Liberal fundraiser event and to attend the 50th Anniversary of the Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow. He had another critical and surprising event occur with an unknown object being shot down over Alaska and Yukon airspace.
Trudeau gave the go-ahead to allow American F-22 fighter jets to shoot down the unknown object.
He added that this object may be connected to the 3 others shot down over Lake Huron, the coast of Alaska, and the coast of South Carolina.
RCMP and the Royal Canadian Air Force are now searching the Yukon wilderness and have narrowed the search to an area between Dawson City and Mayo.
The Prime Minister also touched on a number of other items in his most recent visit to the north.
“I Have (had) long conversations about health care. We’re really looking forward to moving forward on the bilateral agreements, deliver more family doctors, better mental health, moving forward on supporting health workers and better health data and information. These are the kinds of things that we’re continuing to work on alongside investments in critical minerals and infrastructure moving forward a range of things in terms of fighting climate change and supporting economic growth in the north. So that was great conversations to have with with local leadership.”
Trudeau spoke on the unknown object shot down in length at the press conference on February 13, 2023, at the Erik Nielsen International Airport where military aircraft were seen coming and going.
“This is a very serious situation that we are taking incredibly seriously. The actions we’re taking to protect North American airspace, the actions we’re taking to recover and analyze these objects, the importance of defending our territorial integrity. Our sovereignty has rarely been as important as it is now. Obviously, it was important that our ministers and our officials keep talking. It’s important that the President and I have a direct conversation on Saturday afternoon.”
Trudeau has had meetings via phone call with President Joe Biden over the weekend to discuss NORAD’s capabilities, to go over the situation in detail, and keep the President up to date on what Canada knows. He added that future meetings of this nature are definitely on the schedule.
He also visited the 50th anniversary of the Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow celebration over the weekend, as well as, a Liberal fundraiser last night.
