One male suspect has been arrested in connection to the RCMP’s investigation into lewd messages to children
WHITEHORSE – One suspect has been arrested by Yukon RCMP in connection to making sexually explicit material available to a child.
Police began the investigation in February 2023 relating to a youth being sent lewd messages through numerous social media platforms from an unknown person. In hopes to notify other possible victims, police are sharing some details of the investigation.
In March 2023, police executed a search warrant and apprehended an adult male. This individual was charged with making sexually explicit material available to a kid as well as criminal harassment. The individual was freed on various conditions and with future court appearances scheduled. His terms include not using or possessing any computer or device capable of accessing the internet, as well as not attending any place where individuals under the age of 18 are reasonably likely to be present.
In order to protect the privacy of the victim and the integrity of this investigation, few details will be released by police, including the name of the person arrested. The man’s identity was not released in the RCMP press release.
Police say anyone in the Whitehorse area receiving repeated, ongoing lewd messages from unknown senders, they are urged to contact RCMP or, another trusted source right away.
