Travelers in or coming into the Yukon are asked to evaluate their travel plans
YUKON – Across the Yukon communities and areas are experiencing many emergencies like wildfires and flooding
As Yukoners head into another weekend, the Government of Yukon has issued a travel advisory for first responders and public safety.
Over 130 wildfires are currently ongoing in the territory and Wildland Fire Services are trying their best to battle the fires, with the help of British Colombia firefighters.

Several Yukon communities, and campgrounds are under evacuation alerts and roads have been closed, on top of that, the territory is faced with telecommunications interruptions and poor air quality.
Fire Information Officer, Mike Fancie explains where Yukoners can get the most up to date information.
“We’re looking at potentially a decrease in fire danger due to showers across many regions. There’s still a lot of fire activity across the territory. And so people need to know that since there are just too many to mention in one phone call. The best place to get information about the wildfires that you need to know about is at yukon.ca/wildfires.”
Fancie also continued to explain more about how this is a good opportunity for people living in those communities with evacuation alerts in place.
“If you’re in a community with an evacuation alert, it’s also a really good time right now to think about what you need to do right now in order to evacuate. We don’t have any evacuation orders in place right now and that’s a good thing. The alert is an opportunity to reflect on whether you have a plan, for anybody who needs extra assistance, if you have all of your important documents together, if you have a pet plan if you have pets.”
Visitors and residents of the Yukon are urged to carefully evaluate their travel arrangements. This is done for everyone’s protection, including their own, the safety of first responders, locals in affected regions, and the flow of necessary supplies and machinery.
