18-year-old man arrested in Smarch murder

An 18-year-old man from Whitehorse has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of 35-year-old Aaron Smarch.

On February 6, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., the Yukon RCMP Major Crime Unit, along with other supporting units, arrested Norman Kendi without incident.

RCMP also executed two search warrants related to this investigation in downtown Whitehorse during the evening of February 6.

Norman Kendi made his first court appearance on February 7, in Whitehorse, and remains in custody.

The investigation is continuing and the RCMP are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact the Whitehorse RCMP Major Crime Unit at 867-667-5551.

The Yukon RCMP continues to share our condolences with the family and friends of Aaron Smarch, and would like to thank everyone who has assisted in this investigation.
