The Yukon Quest wraps up all races today with mushers in the YQ450 race finishing in Dawson City
YUKON – Michelle Phillips is the first musher to arrive in Dawson City to win the YQ 450.
Michelle Phillips and her crew crossed the finish line in Dawson City, at 1:21 AM on February 15, 2023. A group of onlookers and volunteers gathered outside the Dawson Info Centre to cheer on Michelle and the puppies as they entered.
Tagish Lake Kennels’ Phillips began and finished the YQ450 with a team of twelve dogs.
She led the pack throughout the race at each time checkpoint.
Soon to arrive are Mille Porslid, Connor McMahon, Aaron Peck, Mayla Hill and Louve Tweddel.
Previously, this Dawson City finish line functioned as a midway rest point along the historic 1000-mile trek between Whitehorse and Fairbanks, Alaska. Phillips has completed eight previous 1000-mile Quests and 21 1000-mile races in his 25-year career as a dog runner.
A summary of the YQ 100, 250 and 450 races is set to be posted tomorrow morning.
