A semi-truck fire has closed a portion of the Alaska Highway
WHITEHORSE – Emergency crews responded to an overturned semi-truck on fire, that closed a portion of the Alaska Highway.
Authorities responded to an overturned semi-truck on fire on August 18, 2022, around 10:30 a.m, on the Alaska Highway, mile marker 1386. The truck was believed to be hauling batteries, mixed oil and airbags along the highway.
Crews shut down both traffic lanes for 4-5 hours near Lewes River Bridge as traffic backed up. After an extended period of time, the road was re-opened to a single lane of traffic, allowing motorists to flow north and south.
The RCMP, EMS and multiple fire departments were on scene and no details have been released regarding the state of the people involved.
