Yukoners can now vote on candidates who will be appointed to school councils and school boards
YUKON – The school board elections and by-election nomination period have closed, sending Yukoners to the polls to cast their votes.
Nominations closed for school board general elections and Whistle Bend school council by-election on October 27, 2022. This means elections will now take place to elect 5 trustees to be appointed to their respective seats.
The Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon received 6 candidates, while the First Nation School Board had a total of 12 candidates and the Whistle Bend Elementary School council had 5 candidates nominated. Every council and school board must fill 5 seats, as such, Whistle Bend Elementary will not be holding a poll as they have the correct amount of seats filled already.
A poll will be held to elect five trustees to each the Commission scolaire francophone du Yukon and the First Nation School Board. Voting will take place beginning October 28 until November 7, 2022.
– Saturday, November 5, 2022 – Early Voting (11 a.m.-4 p.m.) in-person voting at nine Yukon schools
– Monday, November 7, 2022 – Election Day (3 pm to 8 pm)
Elections Yukon and nine schools around the territory provide in-person voting.
When the polls close, the ballots will be tallied, and the trustees chosen by popular vote will be announced.
– Additional Voting Options – Electors will have extra chances to vote during the election season by making an appointment with a Returning Office, voting online, or voting in person at the Jim Smith Building in Whitehorse from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
