In a joint effort by the Yukon Government and 45358 Yukon Inc, 12 new affordable homes have finished construction.
WHITEHORSE – Construction of 12 new affordable homes is complete as the Government of Yukon and 45358 Yukon Inc come together.
The homes in Whitehorse, in the Copper Ridge neighbourhood are already fully tenanted and rented as per the median rent determined by the Yukon Bureau of Statistics and include 2 accessible, barrier-free homes located on the first floor.
The Yukon Homes Corporation’s Housing Initiative Fund contributed $500,000 to the project, which promotes the creation of affordable housing in the territory. All projects funded by the Housing Initiatives Fund must be 25% more energy efficient than the National Building Code.
45358 Yukon Inc. installed solar panels for this project to assist offset rising electricity bills and minimize the building’s emissions. The structure fulfills and surpasses the minimal energy code criteria by 52%.
According to the Yukon Government, this initiative will assist in providing Yukoners with more affordable, well-located, and energy-efficient housing alternatives, as well as access to on-site electric car charging stations.
So far, the Housing Initiatives Fund has sponsored almost 600 new units and around 470 affordable apartments in the area via five successful intakes.
