WHITEHORSE – One person has been arrested by Whitehorse RCMP in relation to the break and enter in Whitehorse’s Whistle Bend neighbourhood last month.
The suspect with a connection to the break and enter in the city’s northern neighbourhood remains in custody as police continue the investigation.
On April 12, at around 2:30 pm, police received a report of a break-and-enter that was taking place in the Whitehorse suburb of Whistle Bend. The caller said they could see a person trying to break into a house while seeming to be holding a gun on their home security cameras. The individual departed the house while leaving for the neighbourhood, according to the police, who were on the scene right away.
After the initial call involved a response from GIS officers, Whitehorse RCMP General Duty, Yukon RCMP Emergency Response Team (ERT), and Yukon RCMP Police Dog Services (PDS), the Whitehorse RCMP General Investigative Section (GIS) was given the responsibility for leading this investigation.
The subsequent investigation took hundreds of hours as police officers investigated the area, searched the neighbourhood for surveillance, questioned witnesses, and pursued several leads to gather data.
The individual will remain in custody as the investigation continues and RCMP say more information will be released after charges are filed and a court date is set for the accused.
