The track contained within the $8.2 million project is now being rubberized and should be ready by August.

Final work on the new running track at FH Collins Secondary School in Whitehorse began Monday.

The Yukon Government says the track surface will be rubberized and will be complete by the time the new school year begins.

Community Services says the rubber requires overnight temperatures to stay above 10 degrees Celsius in order for the track to set.

A release says the public is asked to stay away from the track to allow for proper installation.

Athletics Yukon plans to register the new track to World Athletics standards so the track may be used for national meets in the future.

The $8.2 million facility also includes steeplechase, long jump, high jump, and shotput facilities, along with a soccer field.
